Passherby

The young man approaches
His smile a sweet sight
But it is a lightless world
Beneath her eyes.
Her vision opaqued by last years thwarted romance

Memory, confusing how time
Confuses today from yesterday
And portends tomorrow to be the same
As yesteryear.

Unable to see
His pure innocence and charm.
Confined memory clouds perspective

She yearns to chance
A look and more.
A word that could be spoken

Imprisoned desires will not slip away
Jailed by prior defeat.
Unable to release her pain ,
She ages in her cell of yesterday

No pain
Hiding from herself
Unable to feel
Somber liquids are denied and will not flow

The young man smiles
Waits for recognition
Notices her heart
is chained
And finally retreats

Take me Back
